The bottom "crust" is made from a simple bread batter known as Yorkshire pudding. Then, the baked bread is topped with mashed potatoes, sliced sausage, and gravy for an incredibly satisfying and comforting meal. Even if you're not familiar with classic British recipes, this comforting classic is worth a try. I make this all the time. The only thing I do different is I put my sausages in it in stead of on top. Love the expression on people's faces when you say supper is Toad in the Hole! L

14. Now that sounds like comfort food at its best. I remember my Nana used to make Yorkshire Pudding with roast beef and I loved it. Ive always heard mention of Toad in the Hole, but never had any idea of what it actually was. Could you use other sausage besides Bratwurst? I suppose you would need something reasonably spicy to add the flavour?

Hi LynM, you could use another type of sausage, although bratwurst is typically used in this British recipe. If you do use another type of sausage, let us know how it turns out! - Natalie, Editor of AllFreeCasseroleRecipes
