I have had homemade macaroni and cheese topped with all sorts of things - crushed potato chips, ritz crackers, french fried onions, breadcrumbs, or even Doritos corn chips. The breadcrumbs are definitely the way to go! I like to use the panko variety for maximum crunch factor, or even make my own with leftover french bread!
